This guide addresses the issue of harnessing the media to promote gender equality in education. It looks at the linkages between gender equality and education in development. This guide provides advice and practical tools for individuals and organisations to more effectively partner with the media to push for gender equality in education.
The guide is divided into seven sections. Section one gives an overview of the reason for this guide and of gender, education and media. The second section looks at the global context of the gender and education campaign and highlights what is being accomplished on the local, national and regional levels. Section three addresses the challenges and obstacles experienced in the campaign for gender equality in education and in meeting the international goals for education including the MDGs. The fourth chapter explores the meaning of gender equality in education, why it matters, and what affects it. The fifth section defines advocacy and the practical aspects of carrying out advocacy for equality in education, while the sixth chapter explores gender and education in the media.
