A better future for rural girls: manager's briefing kit

Addressing rural girls’ needs: strategies for programme managers and policy makers

By: Maïga F & Shire A
Produced by: China Biodiversity Information System (CBIS) , 2005

This briefing kit presents the results and recommendations of participatory research conducted with rural girls, boys, their families and local leaders in three rural communities: Soula, Burkina Faso, M’Biénina, Mali, and Méouane, Senegal, to identify the challenges that rural girls face and come up with strategies to address their many needs. The authors argue that few of the rural health and development programmes and projects in French-speaking Africa are aimed specifically at rural girls; this kit therefore suggests key policy and programme strategies aimed at policy makers and programme managers.
