A hybrid identity among the Sukuma in the Tanzanian Africa Inland Mission - Fabian Maganda

The article examines the implications of cultural interactions between Norman Dilworth, an American missionary with the Africa Inland Mission, and the Sukuma culture of Tanzania. It employs qualitative research methods to analyse the cultural conflicts Norman Dilworth experienced. The article investigates the ways in which cross-cultural experiences affect a person's cultural consciousness, self-judgement and identity. It also demonstrates how Dilworth's life and work as a missionary and cultural hybrid are illustrative of the powerful possibilities of cultural interaction.
