Making our own modernity: standards, values and benchmarks in the African schhol in the age of globalization - Crain Soudien

Against a backdrop of declining educational performance, at both the systemic level and that of learner performance, the purpose of this paper is to consider alternative ways of understanding the future of education in Africa. The paper examines the experience of India's process of modernization to reflect on modernizing approaches to education being developed in Africa today. The importance of the Indian precedent is that it provides Africa with the opportunity of structuring its own approach to modernization and on its own terms. The paper considers questions of assesment and standards in this context.
